raj, in your current trend of following up my posts with this message, I thought I'd point out a thread you seem to have missed.

Good Morning Phil,
In your regards to your reply:
I've no idea why the email wouldn't have been received. Maybe a firewall/port mapping issue ??
I am no expert on network issues, but if it were a firewall/port issue wouldn't my stored procedure that uses CDOSYS to send mail also fail? I guess my question is, have you ever successfully used xp_smtp_mail on a server that didn't have IIS and SMTP services running?
Thanks,
Michelle

"have you ever successfully used xp_smtp_mail on a server that didn't have IIS and SMTP services running"
Yes, we have one that resides of the domain in its own workgroup with the webservers and it uses the smtp service running on the web servers. Another 3 are on WAN links to the smtp service running on an Exchange server. I'm no expert in networking myself so I couldn't tell you the nitty gritty of how it works.
Have you looked at the FAQ and troubleshooting on http://www.sqldev.net? The fact that you say it works successfully, (I presume you're checking return codes, missed that more than once myself ) but you don't get an email sort of indicates that it's being held up somewhere. Depending on their configuration mail servers can hold onto failed emails for days while they retry.
Do you have access to the log of the smtp server you're using? Can you verify if the messagewas actually processed on the server?

Phil and rschaeferhig,
Thanks to both of you for your help. I have successfully set up my DTS package with the global variables needed to accept the SQL Agent tokens to create my message. It's working like a charm. I will continue to look into xp_smtp_sendmail, but for now I have what I need. Thanks again, and have a great weekend!
Michelle
