DTS Package location information

  • I am moving a package from Dev to QA to Production. Each stage is on different Servers. I would like to make this transition as seamless as possible, but I have hit a snag.

As far as I can tell, there is no way for the package to tell what server it was saved on. Does anyone know how to do this.

BTW I will let you know that WMI & FSO both return information based on the context of the user not the machine where the package is running. Environmental Variables do not work for the same reason.

Any thoughts? This can't be the first time this has been an issue....

  • Open the DTS Package in EM and Select Save As in the Package Menu. Specify the name, Location as SQL Server and the Server name.
