Lara,
I have seen similar behavior when the package has been created on one machine, but gives you the error when opening properties on another.
Example...
You create a package with a specific DSN ( or source file etc), sav e and execute the package. All is well. Now go to a different machine that has access to that SQL Server and access the properties.....You will probably get that error IF a DSN of the same name does NOT exist on your current machine.

Thanks a lot.
i found it weird too. especially since, whne you remote the box the server is sitting on and you open enterprise manager , you can see the dts package , to design view and all is well,
the error only occurs when you try to open the dts via em, from the programmer's machine
