I have sqlserver 2000, several instances. Earlier I cound DTS data back and forth. Now all of a sudden, DTS does not recognise a particular intance by name: I give the IP,port it works!. The server is windows 2003. This server hosts several instances, DTS sees some instances by name and does not see some. Not sure what is wrong!. The sqlservers are up and running.

Open the Client Network Utility, click on the Alias tab and click on Add. Choose the TCP/IP radio button. Type the SERVERNAME\INSTANCE in the Server alias box, the IP address in the Server name box and the port number in the Port number box.

I am surprised that an alias was gone. Not sure how this got deleted.
