DTS job doesn''t copy passwords

    Hello everybody

    Has anyone seen this before?  I have a DTS job with a Copy SQL Server Objects task.  The Copy SQL Server logins box is ticked.  When I run the job, the logins are copied but the passwords aren't - all the passwords are blank.  Is this a bug, or is the behaviour by design?

    You need to use the Transfer Logins Task rather than the Copy SQL Server Objects.  Passwords aren't scripted for security reasons.  You can refer to the article below:

    Thanks - I think I had come to that unfortunate conclusion.  I say unfortunate because the network people here won't give me a domain account for starting SQL Server and so I can't use the Transfer Logins (or Transfer Databases) task.  Never mind - we'll just have to set up a process to work our way round it!
