DTS and Excel

  • When I use DTS to import data from Excel (5.0) if the column has characters at the top and numbers further down the numbers are converted to NULLs in the table. The reverse happens if numbers are at the top. How do I ensure it imports all the values from all rows?

  • It could be the format of the columns in excel. Not sure how it does it but it might read the column datatype to be able to translate it. I had loads of problems with Excel so ended up saving it as a .CSV and then importing as a text file.

  • One way you can get around this is by preceeding any numbers in the column with a single quote (') This tells excel to treat the number as text.
