  Thanks for an interesting question. I did not find in the docs a link to DROP EXTERNAL TABLE for Azure SQL Database. This page DROP EXTERNAL TABLE (Transact-SQL) applies not to Azure SQL Database.  I guess it's a mistake. But it is clear here in CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE (Transact-SQL) .
