Dropping database by issuing a cancel restore

  • Hi All,

Has anyone else experienced this? In my absence, when doing a restore in SQL2000 EM - SP2 on Friday, my assistant hit the cancel button during the restore (test db, thankfully). This deleted the database (I originally assumed he hit delete by mistake). I recreated the database today in an attempt to see if I could get the same behavior. After restoring successfully a few times and not getting the same result, I hit the cancel button during restore and it deleted the db as well as the underlying files. Any thoughts?

  • I suspect the db creation is part of a transaction. IS this restoring any database or only a new database?

  • It's a new database. I create the database, assigning the devices to separate spindles. I then try to do the restore using EM. I cancelled the restore when I realized I had mispelled the data file and, POOF, the database was gone, including the data and log files.

  • Terry,

I had this experience recently. And I thought it's usual. I am new to SQL server and this happened to me in first few weeks.

We had full backups though for the Db that was deleted.

I haven't find any reson but keep us posted if you find anything. Thanks.
