Infrastructure have dropped one of our old servers which held a redundant database. However, right clicking in EM, I cannot delete the server from the group as it is no longer there!
Is there another way I can drop the server from the EM?

do you get an error when you try and drop it?

When you right clicked on the server there was no list of tasks. I got Infrastructure to put the server back onto the network which then enabled me to drop the registration.
I would still like to know if there is a way to drop a registration when the server is no longer on the network.

I've not had this problem when servers have been removed - I can remove them by right-clicking on the server registration. In 2005 you can export the registered server list to a file, edit out the removed server and then import the file again. Not sure about 2000

I had to do this a while back with SQL2000 EM. The way I got it to delete is to search the registry for the server/instance name and delete the entry; think it's in two different places, but you'll know when it's the right place because you will find it listed with the other servers/instances you've already registered.
Good luck

Delete the entry from registry.
Go to HKCU>Software>Microsoft>Microsoft SQL Server> 80>Tools>SQLEW>Registered Servers X> SQL Server Group
Check out for the group name from the same location and then delete the registry entry for your server.

Thanks for your help. I just hope that it doesn't happen again!
