Hi,
We have noticed a peculiar behavior with Microsofts DPM. A customer runs Hyper-V and is using DPM för backup of all the virtual machines in the environment. But we rely on Ola Hallengrens scripts for SQL Backup
Now, when quering "msdb.dbo.backupmediafamily" we see a lot of backups having a "physcial_device_name" that is a GUID, which usually hints about an agent running backups. The backup seems to go in conjunction with the backup of the Virtual Machine it self, so we are pretty sure it's DPM doing SOMETHING. But we see NO trace of this backup ANYWHERE in the system. DPM doesn't say anything and we can't find any reference to any SQL backup being activated from DPM or Hyper-V. We're not able to determinate if it's a "Copy Only" or not, which of course is a bit worrisome.
Any ideas about how to stop this from running?

Hi, are there any messages in any of the logs (windows or sql) that say "volume shadow copy" or VSS by chance?

We had the same issue with our DPM 2012 setup affecting our virtual SQL servers hosted on Hyper-V
This registry setting was added to the virtualized SQL server and not the Hyper-V host
