Is it possible to set up a dial-up connection within an SSIS package? If so, how?
Background:
Every day, a colleague has to FTP a text file from an outside source using a dial-up connection. This file is then processed through an existing DTS package.
This individual is often away, and lack of documentation on his part results in this important file not being downloaded. Yes, I realise that getting him to tighten up his practices would improve things, but I'm thinking removing the responsibility from him altogether would be better.
As part of the process, the DTS package would be migrated / redesigned for SSIS.
Setting up the FTP connection to a remote server and using the FTP task is one thing, but how do I get the package to automatically dial-up to the remote server?
Any comments / suggestions welcome.
Many thanks in anticipation

You could setup the modem to dial on demand. When the ftp task runs, it'll connect. It will probably cause lots of false connections though when other software tries to phone home.
I suspect there would be a way to start a connection from within vb. If so, you could use a script task and force the modem to connect.
Cheers,CrispinI can't die, there are too many people who still have to meet me!It's not a bug, SQL just misunderstood me!
