I've been looking into it and haven't been able to come up with anything that might help you.
Can't think of anything right now....
Here's a shot in the dark....try disabling the firewall and then create the ODBC connection.
Don't know if that would help. Hope it does.

There is no sql.exe anyway. Do you have Applications like "SQLAgent" and "sqlservr"??
Does SQL Server show in your Services(Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services)??...and is it Started??
If it exists in Services then it means that it is installed on the machine.

SQL 2008 is the version, the edition is Express, Standard, Developer, Enterprise.
Is this a named instance?
Can you ping the server by IP, Name and FQDN from the machine where you have created the ODBC?
Remote connections enabled?

sorry the edition is Standard, and i do all thing but now i unstiall the sql server and do the system congfigration checker all the all the rule it's pass only computer domain controller it's warning
FacetDomainControllerCheck Checks whether the computer is a domain controller. Installing SQL Server 2008 on a domain controller is not recommended. Warning Installing SQL Server 2008 on a domain controller is not recommended.
