I would like to upgrade a SQL servers 2014 to 2017. I will call it Server A. It is only database servers, no SSRS service.
But it will used as the data source database of many reports.
I also have a SSRS server SQL 2014 Server B which has both SSRS service and database engine installed. The database engine is for reportdb. Currently we don't want to upgrade this server.
My question is does SSRS 2014 work with data source hosted on newer version of database like 2017?
I cannot find any documentation online about this.

Yes. The following document lists the different data sources supported with the different providers. For SQL Server data sources, it lists the versions when using OLEDB, ODBC, or SQL Server Native Client. It's SQL Server 2008 or later with all of the providers.
