Does SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 apply to SQL Server 2008 R2?

  • Just wondering if SP1 is only for the first release of SQL Server 2008, or if service packs apply to both releases. I can't seem to find anything that says yes or no to this.

    Thanks,

    Adam

  • It does not, no more than SQL 2008 SP1 applies to SQL 2005.

SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 are separate versions with separate service patch paths

  • What do you mean "first release"?

This applies to SQL Server 2008 RTM.

SQL Server 2008 R2 is a separate product. It is not a second release of SQL Server 2008. It is actually a version change and will have it's own service packs labeled "SQL Server 2008 R2"
