Does SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 apply to SQL Server 2008 R2?

    Just wondering if SP1 is only for the first release of SQL Server 2008, or if service packs apply to both releases. I can't seem to find anything that says yes or no to this.

    It does not, no more than SQL 2008 SP1 applies to SQL 2005.

    SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 are separate versions with separate service patch paths

    What do you mean "first release"?

    This applies to SQL Server 2008 RTM.

    SQL Server 2008 R2 is a separate product. It is not a second release of SQL Server 2008. It is actually a version change and will have it's own service packs labeled "SQL Server 2008 R2"
