Does Sql Server 2000 Developers Edition Support XP

  • Hello All,

I'm planning to purchase SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition, however the documentation states that it does not support windows XP, is this correct?

    Regards

  • It runs on Windows XP. Quite a few of us have a developer edition version running on Windows XP, even SP2. However, be sure to check the KB articles on making it work.

  • Thank you,

could you send me a link to the articles.

Do a search for SQL Server XP and it'll come back with the relevant links.

  • A colleague has also advised me that I need to install SQL version 7 first, is this correct? and if so why?

  • Personally I've never had a problem with it on XP. We have a mixture of XP and Win 2K3 and we haven't noticed any differences. Perhaps we don't push it hard enough.

As for installing SQL 7 first - not required. Adsolutely no need what so ever.

  • If you have to support SQL Server 7, yes. You install it first because SQL Server 7 does not support named instances. Then you can install SQL Server 2000 as a named instance.
