Does Cumulative Updates included in next Service packs?

    For SQL 2K8, 5 Cumulative updates been released after SP1. Does the next service pack, SP2 include all the things included in SP1 and all the CU's?

    Simply, is SP2 = SP1 + (CU1 to CU5)

    Unless otherwise advertised, yes. I do seem to remember a service pack that was released once that didn't have a fix from a CU, but that was quite a while ago and I don't even remember which version of SQL Server that was for any more.

    Thanks Lynn,

    I want to avoid such a scenario. I have a fix in CU4 (after SP1). So should I apply SP1 + CU1 to CU4 OR should I install SP2 directly?

    A bit of google search gives the below ..

    SP2 includes hotfixes of SQL Server 2008 SP1 Cumulative Update 1 to 8 only. Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 contains all hotfixes included on SQL Server 2008 SP1 Cumulative Update 9 to 10.

    Is this true?
