At work, plans to upgrade our application/database servers from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 R2 are being drawn. The decision to go with SQL Server 2008 R2 EE has been made but we're still not decided on what OS (Windows Server 2008 R2) edition to upgrade to at the same time. The primary reason for upgrading is to improve the recovery time objective from 4 hours to something much shorter. Thus, one of the factors being considered for making the OS choice is whether that would have a bearing on the database mirroring/replication performance of the upgraded system. I've been scouring the internet for articles that would shed some light on this question but haven't been able to find something definitive.
Currently we're running SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on Windows Server 2003 SP2.
Could somebody please point me to sources for this information?

Are you talking about 2003 vs 2008 or edition of 2008?

Editions of Windows Server 2008 R2.
I believe the only concerns are for clustering. I believe that you need EE of the OS for that. Otherwise I think SE is fine. I know it is fine for replication.
