Does BizTalk application needs 3 sql server 2005instances??

  • Hi,

For Biztalk application, we have 3 instances in SQL Sevrer 2005

    1. ServerName\ins1

    2. Servername\ins2

    3. Servername\ins3

ServerName\ins1 has only database called BizTalkMsgBoxDb

ServerName\ins2 has only database called BizTalkDTADb

ServerName\ins3 has only 2 database called BizTalkDTADb BizTalkMgmtDb and SSODB

    My questions are:

    1. I did not understand why BizTalk application needs 3 instances---Is this a must requirement

    2. Is all databases can go into single instance?

    3. Considering Biztalk application which method is preferred. Having 3 instances or single instance?

    Please suggest me..

    Thanks

  • Hello,

It is not essential to install the BizTalk DBs on different Instances, but this is (often) done to improve scalability, performance and/or availability.

May be take a look at this MSDN article:-
