do the cubes have to be on same drive as AS2000 install files?

  • I have AS 2000 installed on the c drive of a server. the cubes are on the c drive also for some reason. how can i move them to a different drive?

  • This was removed by the editor as SPAM

  • It's been a while since looking at AS2K, so best use a test environment to check this but...

I think the datadirectory is a property of the server (either through right click on the server, or worse case through the registry).  You should be able to modify this, would most likely require a service restart but after shutting it down and before restarting you'd copy the files from the current dir to the new one.

    Steve.

  • i have searched around the server for settings and cant find a data directory setting anywhere there, so it may be in the registry, but i aint touching that with a 40 foot pole! guess il try installing the Analysis services on the new drive in UAT (test).

  • I knew I'd seen *something* *somewhere* --> try the Ops Guide.  This is a link directly to a sample script for changing the data dir -> http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2000/maintain/anservog.mspx#EPLAG  I would really recommend going back in to the Ops uide and finding where this is referenced to give you some background on how/where to us it.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  • sorry to show up my ameteurism in this field, but what is the ops guide and where is it located?

  • Did you follow the link?

That link should take you directly to the SQL Server Analysis Services 2000 Operations Guide (or Ops Guide for short).  This is a guide written specifically for Analysis Services 2000 to assist you in setting up and running (Operating, hence the name) your environment using 'best practices'.

There is also a Performance Guide, used to help you eek every last inch of performance out of your system.  You should be able to link from the Ops Guide to the Perf (Performance) Guide.

    Steve.
