Nope. Think about it, the xml datatype can be up to 2GB. You want to pass that around? Don't!

The issue it not necessarily in returning the XML column:
That said, what would be wrong with returning a sensibly sized XML column in a distributed query? The MAX datatypes are already supported.
There are no special teachers of virtue, because virtue is taught by the whole community.
