Two arcane questions about disk performance and SQL.
Does it matter whether the disks are dynamic or basic?
In using a SAN and Windows 2003, there is a choice of the old drivers and the new "STORPORT" type drivers introduced in Windows 2003. Which is better from a performance standpoint? I've got wonderful instructions how to use each, but cannot find any descriptions of WHY i would choose one.

With a sophisticated array controller (certainly including SANs), one normally chooses Basic and uses the vendor's utilities to manage the dynamic aspects of the storage.
Storport drivers should perform better than SCSIport drivers, but they are also buggier currently.

We had problems with Dynamic Disks to the SAN (Shark), when the server was rebooted the disks came up offline. We could restart them, but I like things automatic.
Changed them to Basic and away we went.
