Hi to all. I am in the process of installing SQL Server 2014 on Windows 2012 VM (VMware v5.0.0.469512). SAN is HP EVA4400. I currently have SQL 2005 on Windows 2003. Do I need to do anything special regards the partitions?
msinfo32.exe returns:
Partition Starting Offset;
Disk #0 = 368,050,176
Disk #1 = 1,048,576
Disk #2 = 1,048,576 etc for all remaining disks. These values are divisible by 4096 so I am thinking I do not need to tweak anything.
Any tips advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Phil.

A neutron walks into a bar. "I'd like a beer" he says. The bartender promptly serves up a beer. "How much will that be?" asks the neutron. "For you?" replies the bartender, "no charge."
Two hydrogen atoms walk into a bar. One says, 'I think I've lost an electron.' The other says 'Are you sure?' The first says, 'Yes, I'm positive... '

Disk alignment is done in Windows 2008 and newer. It was not done prior (Windows 2003). If you are moving to new disks on Windows 2012, they will be aligned. If you move disks from Windows 2003 to Windows 2012, they will not be aligned. The disks will also not be aligned if you upgrade Windows 2003 to a newer Windows version.
Here is a good white paper on the subject: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd758814%28v=sql.100%29.aspx

Also make sure you format any SQL related disks with 64K blocks.
