Hi,
We are planning to upgrade SQL Server 2008R2 to SQL 2014. There are a number of discontinued features between the versions.
Am I correctly understanding that if you leave the compatibility mode on 100 (sql 2008), those discontinued features will still work?
Thanks

I wouldn't count on it.
btw. you can start xEvents to capture deprecated on your current SQL2008R2 instance and preparing for the fix.

Of course, you shouldn't upgrade any database without having run the SQL Server 2014 Upgrade Advisor

It depends on what we're talking about. If we're talking features that are now on the deprecation list, they just haven't been removed yet. If we're talking features that have been removed from the product, then they've been removed from the product. The compatibility mode won't install that stuff for you. It's gone. Compatibility mode primarily limits the addition of new features to your database and its behavior, for example, the 2014 update to the cardinality estimator won't be turned on if you keep the compatibility mode set to the lower values.
