Disaster Recovery and Server Aliases

    If one has defined server aliases within the client network utility on a server, how are these recovered in case of disaster recovery? Does anyone know if they're stored in SQL Server somewhere or if they're stored in files somewhere on the OS?

    The value for alias is stored in registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> MSSQLSERVER -> ConnectTo. In case of disaster recovery, if you are restoring the registry, it would be available. If not, than you might want to document all the aliases.

    Thanks! We're gonna use xp_regenumvalues to store this information for all prod servers in our DR database.
