Disaster and Recovery, SQL 2K5 x64

  • Never tried, but the question came up during our DR meeting for something else and I thought, let me ask for SQL Server 2005 as well. Don't want any surprises if a real DR comes up. I rather be prepared to ask for what I need and not just let someone else makes the decision

I have a few x64 Windows servers and SQL Server 2K5 x64 as well. If a real disaster happens and I have to restore the DBs in any of those boxes (or all as this is suppose to be a real disaster) can I do it in a x86 regular server?

    Thank you for your input.

  • Database and backup formats are the same across all architectures (x86, x64, IA64)

  • Thank you

  • Performance could be drastically different, though. Keep that in mind and set expectations from users. Especially if you have > 4GB of RAM.

  • Thanks Steve. I still have the time to request the boxes I will need for DR, so I am not taking any chances, but wanted to have that question under my to do list checked.
