Differential Backup restore sequence

  • I Have a testdb and i had taken a FULL Backup after inserting 1000 records,

And After inserting 500 Records i had taken DIFF Backup 1

And after inserting 250 Records i had taken DIFF backup 2

And again after inserting 100 Records i had taken DIFF Backup 3

    And Finally a LOG Backup

Now my question is After taking the third DIFF3 Backup will the DIFF 1 and DIFF 2 backups are included in DIFF3 or they will be neglected

so that my restore sequence can be FULL Backup + DIFF 3 + Log Backup

    Is this correct sequence

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • There can be more than one correct answer here, including just restoring the last log backup.

Are we correct in assuming that you want the correct sequence that starts with restoring the last full backup.

  • Please don't post multiple threads for the same question. You've got about 5 different threads on restore sequences, one would have been quite adequate.
