Hi All,
I have a job the executes a differntial backup every working day after a full back up in weekend (SQL Srever 2000 sp3, DB size is ~170GB).
Some time I get the following error:
The backup data in '%s' is incorrectly formatted. Backups cannot be appended, but existing backup sets may still be usable.
and:
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
I used to get it before when I have not had enough disk space (this is what I thought) but now the backup device has enough space.
To stop this I delete the backup set and then it restarts normaly.
What could be the reason for that and how can it be solved.
The backup command is:
backup database datamart to disk = @name With DIFFERENTIAL, init
Thanks.

I have seen when the backup file was on another server and there were sporadic network problems.
