Differences between preview and print preview

  • I've got reports built with tables and groupings and expandable boxes.  The page size for the report is defined as 11 x 8 1/2 (for landscape) with .5-inch margins all around.  The header, body, and footer are all defined with 10 inch width and appropriate lengths which do *not* add up to over 7 inches.  The total size of the grid in layout view is 10 inches by just under 5 inches.  I've checked the margins, there are no issues there.

Here's the problem.  When I first preview the report, it comes up as 2 pages, the first appears to be about 3x as long as it should be.  The second page appears to be normal length.  There are footers on both pages showing page 1 & page 2.  If I go to PRINT preview, then it paginates correctly with the appropriate footers on all four pages.  The fourth page is what appears as the second page in a regular preview.

The problem is that I'm pulling the data from the SQL server box to a web server box for publication (the machine with SQL server has to stay isolated, so I can't browse the user to there), it comes over as the 2-page layout instead of the proper 4-page layout.

Any thoughts on what's wrong would be appreciated.

  • I was hoping that someone might have run into this recently.  I've still not found a solution.

    Thanks!
