  hi all! this is the question: I have a production db backup which is daily restored over a reporting server. The data size of my prod file is 14779 mb., but when i restore this on the reporting server the data grows to 16257 mb.

  Anybody knows why?

  You may need to check the exact dimension of the *.MDF and *.LDF files.

  Sometimes the size of a backup file does not tell us how much space you will need to accomodate both files (*.mdf and *.ldf)

  This is especially true when you have to shrink the transaction log before proceeding with the backup.
