Difference in Layout and display

    Problem statement: In my Report, the text boxes are not lining up in Internet Explorer as I have them in the layout view in BIDS.

    I am attaching two images to help me explain the issue I am having.

    I am using text boxes to display values from my dataset.

    I am grouping these text boxes in groups of three.

    So there is a percentage text box, a total text box and a description text box.

    I am placing each group of 3 into a rectangle

    I have a total of 3 groupings of 3 text boxes with each group in their own rectangle.

    The alignment keeps changing when viewed in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome and I can't seem to figure out what is causing the alignment to change.

    I have started over with a newly created report several times and still the same result.

    I really need some help on this one.

    I have been working on this one report for over a week trying to get the alignment correct and that is just way too long.

    Thanks for any and all help and suggestions.

    Welcome to the wonderful world of SSRS. 😀

    Try putting your 3 groupings into rectangles.

    When you are making your report columnar such as you are some items don't respect each other and they push each other around.

    Thanks for the reply. Yes SSRS is loads of fun :angry:

    I meant to explain that each of the groupings are in their own rectangles.

    Are you saying to put all my groups in One rectangle or each group in their own rectangle.

    I have been experimenting by putting text boxes in rectangles, leaving them out of rectangles, using no rectangles at all and still nothing is working. This really sucks.

    The text box alignment seems to have a mind of it's own.

    If SSRS is really this cumbersome then I have to question it's use as a reporting tool.

    Again,any suggestions are welcome.

    Since SSRS is just generating HTML when it renders your rerport, I'd guess it's a difference in how the three browsers display the HTML. Though I wouldn't know why something seemingly straightforward like alignment would change. SSRS is unfortunately not WYSIWYG.

    For those that might see this thread. I have solved the issue.

    I placed a table control on to my report.

    on the detail row, left hand side, I clicked and added additional rows as needed.

    I put my expressions in the appropriate cell in the table and formatted as needed and it worked great.

    I removed all unneeded text boxes from my report.

    Now everything works as expected.

    As far as rectangles are concerned. I also figured out how to effectively use them with other controls.

    What I was doing was to add the text box control to the report and position them as desired. Once all the text boxes were in place I dropped a rectangle control over them. This was not working at all.

    I figured out that one needs to place the rectangle on the report first, size it as needed, then drop the text box control or what ever control you need, into the rectangle and position the control as needed.

    It worked great. I added text boxes and table controls to rectangles and they were held in position and there was no moving around. The only problem that I have read about is the Matrix control. It will push the rectangle around, but I have no experience with that just yet.

    I hope this information helps others who encounter similar issues.
