Difference in Database Sizes

  • I have two databases, database A and database B, locating on the difference servers.

Both SQL Servers are SQL 2005 with SP 3.

Database A is on a standalone and the database B is on a cluster server.

The data and log files all locate at the SAN disk with ARRAY 5 configuration.

Both databases have been shrunk. Their data files cannot be shrunk any more and their log files have the sizes of 0 MB.

The both databases have the same table structures and indexes.

The tables in each database have the same numbers of rows accordingly.

But the sizes of the databases can be off up to 15%. Since they are large databases, the difference can be up to several dozen GB!

    Any reason?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

...and their log files have the sizes of 0 MB....

I'm not sure I understand this...
