<$200 is my guess for a machine to serve that data. 🙂 1 cpu or perhaps 2, 2GB RAM, 1 drive. Note that that doesn't get you ANY recoverability though. Something with built in RAID and two drives should be obtainable for $500 or less. Mirror the drives for data protection. A USB keychain could be sufficient backup for you. $10 for a GB or 2 these days.

Would a server in this price class also allow for .NET connectivity or would that be extra? Also, is that price for something used on ebay or can you actually purchase a server for such a low price?
I appreciate all of the suggestions and advice that I received today. I feel like I can do this now! 😀

That is for used box. .NET stuff is freely downloadable/installable/distributable from download.microsoft.com. Best of luck with your endeavour!
