Hello,
How to delete backups in blob storage from azure sql server VM to maintain retention ? Instead of Ola hallengrens script , can someone give me suggestions? Thanks in advance sql DBA's ??

Does this help? I assume you mean backup files from the database, not VM backups.

Question on delete, what happens to those backups if you do not have any delete policy? Do they stay for ever in lower tiered storage? I read the Azure documentation but couldn't find anything explicitly saying what happens to the backups if there is no delete policy, i guess what is the default delete retention ? TIA

Likely they stay. Since companies have different retentions, and some keep limited backups for 7-10 years, Azure might not have a policy here.

Plus they like you paying them.
