Default Instance on SQL Server 2000

  • I have SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition (sp3a) running on a windows 2003 (sp4) Server.

It is a Production Instance with 3 NAMED Instances and NO Default Instance.

Does anyone know if I can rerun the SQL Server Install and add a DEFAULT Instance to this box without disrupting the other Named Instances???

  • I think the Installer will tell you if you can install the default instance. Should be possible.

  • When you rerun the SQL Setup, you can choose whether to use a default or another named instance.

  • Thank you!!!   I was just nervous about Installing a Default Instance on a box that already has 3 (Production) named Instances..  I didn't want to blow it up!  I don't relish the thougt of have to rebuild the 3 named Instances!!!
