I have two workstations that use SQL Server 2008 (SS Management Studio). On one, the "Connect to Server" form to select a database engine opens for selection of new or recent engines to connect to. The other opens and closes this form using the most recent connection.
I suspect this is a relatively simple set up item, but can anyone tell me where it is? I work with different server instances (engines) and need to have the flexibility of selection.
Thanks in Advance.

If I am understanding your question correctly, you would click on Options from the initial "Connect to Server" login. There on the "Connection Properties" tab you would change the "Connect to database" to <default>
I hope this is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had tried this before, but the main issue is the "Connect to Server" form that has the "Options" opens for only a split second and I can not get to the Options.
The strange thing (at least to me) is that when I reboot the workstation, the first time I open SSMS the "Connect to Server" allows a choice. I checked the options and all is the default(i.e. no specific server noted). Closing SSMS and reopening continues to have this issue and allows no choice of server. The most recent used is what is available.
The settings appear to be the exact same as those on my other workstation that does not function this way.
