Nice question.
It's great to see this feature come to SQL Server, and the various masking options and the permissions arrangement look well thought out.

It's definitely a nice feature to have, however, it seems to me it will have a very narrow use in that you're limited by the fact that the scope for unmasking is at the database level (as opposed to schema or object). Given more granularity for that permission would open up a larger set of use-cases for it.
