Dealing with a large tempdb log file

  • Hi All,

I have a 2000 SP4 failover cluster, vendor provided database system.

Tempdb mdf is 4.5 GBs, the log file is 29 GBs.

Am I correct in thinking that a restart will bring tempdb done to its initial configured size but that it is quite likely that whatever caused the log file to grow (assuming it was not a one time event) will likely happen again and the log will revert back to its current size.

juts looking for a little backup so I can tell the SAN guys to hand over the storage space....

    thanks

Yes and yes. You'll need to hunt down the root cause to resolve permanently
