We've lost 2 DBA's since Jan 07' and it's been tougher and tougher to find good replacements. Anyone else seen a shortage in good talent?

I like the way you spam the forums with seemingly usefull questions only to push your URL. It's a very neat idea. You may also post job postings in the correct forum, that may get more attention to your needs to find some DBAs.

Lets be reasonable here, checkout the thread below and you will know why DBAs are leaving. The person thinks someone can spend two days at their shop and DBA related issues can be resolved until he attends classes in November. What a funny job posting.

lol, just think of the ongoing consultancy, 1-2 days training at a couple of K per day, basically setting up maintenance plans etc so they think they're getting their money's worth
after they've taken the classes he'll realise that it's 'slightly' more complicated, and then you'll be able to hike the prices

Even more amazing is what folks think a DBA is supposed to do

Always appreciate the rude comments but the site (which is now off my sig) is a free local job board that a buddy of mine works for. No $ is derived as there are no paying clients and no advertisements. Therefore free for employers and free for job seekers and no advertisements mean that it's built specifically to help IT professionals land good jobs without having to deal with advertisements.
Those of you who answer questions without slamming people - Thanks you folks are awesome.

There is always a shortage of top talent for any job.
There is always a plentiful supply of second-rate talent and just plain incompetents for any job.
There is never a shortage of people who want top talent but are only willing to pay for second-rate talent.

Apolgies for my buds... they're of the same ilk as I... we come here because it's usually a safe place to go without much advertising and virtually no spam. And, we're pretty tough on spammers (as you can tell)... the comments you saw don't even come close to being rude compared to some of the others we've "taken care of"
If you're site is truly free, especially for folks looking for good jobs and other folks looking for good people, then you're good people and I'm all for you (although regular posts on the JOBS forum would certainly bring more attention to your good site).
So far as you having your URL in your sig, look around... lot's of folks here have a URL as part of their sig... why not you, too?

Jeff,
I was telling him DBAs are leaving because employers are either too cheap to pay or looking for one man IT department in a DBA. That was based on Job posting both here and other online places like the thread I posted, I just got an email from a recruiter who wants to see my incorporation papers, Tax ID and 1 million dollar liability insurance.
Kind regards,

Oh no... wasn't referring to your post... I understood what you meant and I think the OP did, too. I think the OP thought Remi might have been a little rude, but without knowing more about the "free" service being offered, I can't blame Remi a bit... in fact, Remi beat me to it

Thanks for the clarification - I'm sure my buddy wishes the site made a profit but it's a good networking tool and a good source for IT folks to land good opportunities without dealing with advertisements like monster blasting popups all over your machine.
Here in Houston we were seeing salaries of roughly 85k'ish for a Sr. DBA and now days i've got a few friends who are actively interviewing and have been seeing salaries of 100-110k - If there's a special skills required outside the norm companies are going up to 120.
No complaints here!

That's cool... you should post the site in the Jobs forum with that info... you'd be surprised at how many bites you get. You can even do it a couple of times a month and I'm sure no one would even think of pitching a gripe.

To be clear, I don't mind you linking somewhere in your sig, if you're posting something that is relevant to the topic. In here, I thought you started an interesting discussion.
I think 85 isn't too bad, especially as Houston is a lower cost of living then Denver. I'd probably look in the 90-95 range here, but I took a job at 85 a few years ago. Getting to 100-110, I think you'd need to be exceptional and I think the job would require it to be worth it for the company.
