I'd strongly suggest the books:
"Database Administration" by Craig Mullins. This is a completely platform agnostic description of the job of database administrator, including specializations such as development dba, data warehouse expert, etc. It's a must read by anyone entering into this profession
"SQL Server 2008 Management and Administration" by Ross Mistry. This is your basic tome of knowledge about how to be a DBA within the SQL Server toolset. Another must read.
After that, it depends on what you need, where you're spending your time, etc.
