Hi There,
In our production environment, Some times server went slow, even good optimized queries also showing timeout error & some got blocked.
1. What could cause these slow down?
2. What are the basic things could cause the slowdown ?
3. I'm very new to these type of activities, Please suggest me the articles to read and guidelines to follow.
Thanks In Advance

In addition to Gail's excellent articles, for even more detail, check out my book on query tuning in my signature below.
You might also look at the free book Troubleshooting for the Accidental DBA from Red Gate.
It sounds like you're hitting resource contention.
You can also look at a slide show I have that's a checklist for performance tuning. It might help.

sp_whoisactive. Free and AWESOME tool to show you what is happening on the server right now. Also can do differential time-based analysis. Find it on sqlblog.com, where Adam Machanic has a 30-day blog series on it's awesomeness.
