Hi,
The datawarehouse has a Cobol, DB2 source system. Any thumb rules for converting the data types of the source system to SQL server data types?
Thanks!

1) Cross-check field sizes. In particular Integer can mean 2-byte or 4-byte in different systems. Most Cobol and DB2 data types map well to SQL data types apart from date and time.
2) Review how you want to deal with date and time fields. DB2 has Date, Time and Timestamp. SQL only has Date, which holds both date and time. However, the granularity of SQL time is less than DB2 time. (SQL also has a Timestamp data type that has nothing to do with date or time...)
We import DB2 for AIX data into our SQL data warehouse with no real problems.
