Last month i successfully created 3 maintenance plans that backed up in the morning, afternoon, and midnight. They have been successfully backing up to a network folder on another server.
They ran from 8/18 to 8/28. Beginning on Monday 9/2 they started failing and have failed since. Is there something I may have missed. They are scheduled continously and have no end date. Would they need to be reset monthly?

Depending on the DR needs, you have to delete the backups eventually. You need to figure out when a backup is no longer needed, then create a job that deletes to old ones... or have the backups expire and be deleted in the maintenance plan.
I had the same problem, I had a 1 TB hd for backups on a 400 MB DB. I took a while, by that disk got filled up. It's always just a matter of when!

If you add an alert for Insufficent resources it would fire when it encounters a disk space issue. There is a script attached to an article I wrote on this site which will help you add alerts and database mail so it can mail the alert into your inbox.
