Dear all
I am fairly new in the field of db backups. I am currently learning of how to do all the process. I have a fairly critical enterprise application that has a sql 2005 back end. Would anyone be able to suggest a good strategy/policy on database backup and also restoration. Would there be any utilities ?
Sincerely

You can use native sql backup command to backup the databases and its transaction log backups...Or you can use the database maintenance plans wizard to create backups...
See BOL topic "Backup database" and "database maintenance plans"

If you are still not confident of writing the script you can use the backup / Restore wizard.
As directed by MohammedU please check the BOL.
