Date and Time Dimension

  • Hi,

I'm working on two reporting projects. One of them is for a call center. For this project I need not only dates, I also need time. So what ist best practice, to build two dimensions, one for time, another for date or is it better to implemnt a single date/time dimension ?

    Thanks

  • Hi

I would certainly split them into 2 separate Dim's.

It used to also be agreed that all date and times should be converted to join onto the relevant Dim's however if you look at the new MS Adventureworks DW they have also included the datetime as well as the key - this is something that I am now incorporating (for certain frequently used columns) into a new DW that I am designing, saves on a join
