Database mail

  • I have configured database mail on SQL Server 2008 R2 instance.

When I click on "Send Test E-mail" of database mail, it gives me error that "there are no database mail profiles to send a test e-mail. Do you want to launch the database mail configuration wizard to create a new profile".

If I go again to create a same profile & account, it says this profile & account already exists.

If I try to create a different profile & account, it gets created successfully but then it does not allow me to send a test e-mail giving the above error.

Can anybody please provide a solution?

I have configured the db mail on another server (SQL 2008) and it works.

  • I'm not 100% sure, but looks like you were bitten by a DBMail Wizard bug.

    I described it here[/url].

I suggest that you close all dbmail wizard windows and set it up using a single wizard window.

    Hope this helps

  • Bingo!

    You are correct!

Its the same bug which was not allowing me to configure the database mail on server instance.

The database mail wizard of another instance from another server was open during configuration.

All the profiles and accounts were getting added into this instance instead of the one I was doing.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Great!

    Glad I could help.

  • As a side note, this bug has been fixed in SSMS 2012.

You could install it and use it even against a 2008 instance.

  • I have been bitten badly by this bug.:-)

I was recently trying to copy db mail settings from one server to another and somehow managed to mess up the "good" profile settings.

Had to scramble to fix it in production the next day after users starting complaining about not receiving any emails.

    Not fun...
