Can someone tell me what is the best tool for database design ?
September 17, 2003 at 6:38 pm
Well, this is an open question 🙂
I like Visio, not really a db design tool as such, more a diagrammer, but great all the same. I would also consider ERWIN, but is a tad pricey, check them out.
Write yourself up a list of "i want it to.." and "i dont care abouts.." to give yourself half a chance.
Cheers

Also in the pricey range, but not as troublesome as ERWIN, is ER/Studio.

Hope this helps

Hi Chris,
maybe I get flamed by phillcart for getting a point for another pretty useless post, but who cares anyway....
I hail thee, o mighty newborn SQL Server guru ....
Oh, ...and to close the cycle and get back to the this topic.
I like the tool that comes with SQL Server. EM's diagram designer ?!?
And I like doing this in Access and then migrating to SQL Server.

if you continue to post that frequently like the last days, you'll very soon receive such a reply 'I hail thee...'.
If you want or not

If you need to diagram, then create the database to different systems (Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server ...) then ER Studio is probably the way to go. they have a free trial: ttp://www.embarcadero.com/downloads/download.asp
If you don't need this functionality (or can't afford it) go with Visio, Access or EM diagramer.
