Hi All
Iam new to sql and learning the different data types, but when it comes to storage size and bytes I am finding it abit hard to understand. Please can someone explain or point me in tthe right direction.

Books Online covers this fairly well. That is where I would start reading.

tried that and seriously it doen not make sense to me.......need plain english.....

What doesn't make sense? Tell us what you think you understand (or don't) and then we can fill in the blanks and increase your understanding.

I understand the data types that have to be allocated to a column but how does the storage size for eg. Int data type has 4 bytes allocated to it. Is that a fixed 4 bytes? and how is that 4bytes worked out in storage capacity and where is this stored apart from the db, assuming it is stored somewhere else?
