Data Tools vs Data Tools for Visual Studio?

  • So I'm experience some frustration with SQL Server Data Tools (2010 shell) and SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2012.

The former absolutely REFUSES to recognize the source control plugin I have on my machine (even though I both installed and then repaired the install). So I can't add a project or solution to TFS.

The later has no SSIS tasks or objects in the Toolbox. So I can't create or modify any existing packages.

Is there a way to get the TFS plugin for the 2010 shell (64 bit architecture)? I followed the instructions here but that's not working.

If not, is there a way to get the SSIS stuff on the Tools for VS 2012?

  • I'd stop using VS 2010 altogether.

Here is the link to download SSDT-BI templates for Visual Studio 2012, its a different product:

Update, if you are using SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio (which is vs2010) to design SSIS packages and SSRS reports for SQL 2008r2, then you actually need to keep using it. SSDT-BI may update the packages and reports and make them incompatible with SSIS/SSRS 2008r2

I already have this. There's nothing in the toolbox, though.

    How do I fix that?
