Just recently I have noticed a change in the format of the data stored in one of my db's.
It now appears that the 'space' character has been changed to a '+' character. The code which manipulates these strings has not been changed.

Is this related to a recent SQL 2000 hot fix?
Before this point spaces were stored as spaces.
It's OK now. I found a change in the imtermediate code which URL encoded it. Not a SQL problem at all. Apologies.
