Hello everyone:
I would appreciate any suggestion and help. My task: to Convert Legacy Data from [iMIS] - Legacy Application on SQL 7 to [Ruby on the Rails] Target Application on SQL 2005. My challenge: There is no Meta Data from the Target DB which makes it extremely difficult to map. The solution from the Team is to use Web tool to convert data from front end. I have never done data conversion from Front End. This is very challenging for me to proceed with data mapping without understanding how Front End conversion works.
I tried to Google for help without success, most probably, because I do not know what to search for. Any suggestion to any info that could help me would be most welcome.
Thank you everyone
Miriana.

My thought process says when there's no map, make one. Since you appear to be looking at dealing with the Front End, is there any chance you can enter some test data using that Front End and have it deleted before the conversion?
If so, you might be able to get a much better picture of the tables behind the scenes by looking at the content after entering some fairly comprehensive test data - and by comprehensive I mostly mean ensuring every available field in the Front End has data, and you put enough variety in to provide a means of generating some subsets of the data on the basis of grouping by a particular field or two or three or four... (or more?)
You might well learn enough in a day or two to have a comprehensive map, assuming that you have access to the "back end" to look at the actual table content to compare it to what you entered in the Front End, of course.
